My task for the day was to do the following:
“For one full day, keep track of your own media consumption. I don’t care if it’s reading a newspaper (in print or online), TV or radio program (broadcast or online), Facebook, YouTube, blogs, Twitter or anything else. Take notes. Then, do a blog post on your own impressions of how you get information and entertainment. For example, what are your main sources of news? Why do you trust them (if you do), and which do you trust more than others? Do you go to news organizations’ home pages or do you mostly read articles via links from other places, such as Facebook? A key question: What do you think you might be missing? Do you care? In general, I want you to explore your own use of media as a consumer.”
These are my results:
|12:00pm||Finally awoke around 12:00pm (it was my day off) and checked the group message text that constantly wakes me up during the night.|
|12:15pm||Watched E News while eating my breakfast. The program included a recap of Kim Kardashian’s style transformation over the last couple of years. As well as viewer’s opinions on who should not be the character of Christian in the upcoming ’50 Shades of Grey’ movie.|
|1:00pm – 2:30pm||Watched Season 3 Episode 4 of Revenge online. Then listened to multiple playlists on 8Tracks.com while organizing my room.

|3:00pm||3:00pm rolls around and I have to go to the hardware store to buy a new lock for my door. Listened to multiple radio stations in my car on the way there and back (The only one I am certain of is channel 95.5).|
|4:15pm||Looked up how to install a new lock on my door on Youtube.com. It was actually quite easy and only took me about 20-30 minutes.
|4:40 – 6:00pm||Checked my Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, and Yahoo email accounts interchangeably. Found that ASU is one of the top 100 schools that companies find students are most employable from. (GO ASU!) Read about events going on around campus like the Juicy J concert ticket location. Started looking at NYLON Japan magazine online. When logging onto my email account I saw that iHeart Radio hosted Katy Perry’s album release party in Los Angeles. Then I shopped online a little bit, looking for Halloween costumes and clothes from ASOS.
|6:00pm – 7:40pm||Worked on homework and some blogging at Hayden Library while listening to more 8Tracks playlists.Playlists:Garage Random Beast 1– getakliu

|11:30pm||Checked my Facebook, Instagram, and Tumblr account again. Watched Pirate Radio until I fell asleep.|
I feel my media consumption varies from day to day. When I don’t have a lot of things going on, I often use more media than I would on a day like yesterday. I had a lot of errands and other things going on which limited the amount of media I could obtain. That being said, I still spent a large part of my day using different media sources. I see from the information that my computer is the main source of my media consumption. Whether I am listening to music, blogging, going on social media sites, or watching movies I am doing it on the computer.
I am a little embarrassed about the amount of news I see on a day-to-day basis that doesn’t have to deal with clothing or the entertainment industry. My main sources of news come from Facebook.com and from watching television. I think some of the news on Facebook is accurate, definitely not all of it. I find myself following links posted on Facebook.com and as long as the story has a reputable source I usually trust it. I never quite know what to think about news I hear on the television, it really depends on what it involves and who is reporting information about the situation. I think I need to start looking into other subjects that are more important than performers and fashion trends coming out. I am going to make a conscious effort to explore different media sources for news and important events going on.
After viewing the way I use media and my daily media consumption, I am going to be more media literate and try to watch my media usage. I do not know if I will consume less media per say, just because my job revolves around promoting through social media sites. But, I do want to use my time and resources to look into other areas of interest that I think are a little more important than what I’ve been looking into recently. Our society is moving in a more technological way and because of this, majority of the information our society sees is found in different forms of media. I think as a society the amount of media consumption that occurs is just going to grow in years to come.
